President Kibaki misses Sunday Mass twice in a row

President Mwai Kibaki and the first family have finally concluded their unusually long and quiet holiday in Mombasa.

The president’s jet left Mombasa international aiport on Tuesday evenning amid tight security at the the highways leading to and around the airport.

Government officials and other leaders from the region were also at the airport to see the head of state off.

They included Tourism minister Najib Balala, his Transport counterpart Chirau Mwakwere,Environmemnt assistant minister Ramadhan Kajembe, Kaloleni MP Kazungu Kambi and Mombasa Mayor Ahmed Mondhar.

Earlier his programme had indicated he was to leave for Nairobi on Sunday only to extend his stay at the Coast with two more days.

T he only functions the president attended was the handing over of the Queens’ baton at Treasury Square and hosting guests at state house Mombasa during Christmas and new Year’s eves.

Apart from the end year luncheon he hosted for leaders, he did not meet any delegations as is the routine when he visits the province.

His diary was also rid of any functions outside state house as he did not attend Sunday service in the two Sundays that he was in Mombasa.
