MOMBASA HAWKERS PUT ON NOTICE.

HAWKERS

JANUARY 4, 2010

BY EUGENE OMILO

Mombasa Mayor Ahmed Mondhar has put hawkers operating in the central business district on notice.

The mayor said Council askaris will be descending on the streets any time soon to flush out the errant hawkers who have crowded the streets for several months now.

The mayor told yours truly  yesterday that plans are underway to improve the towns’ image as soon as the council resumes from recess next week.

“This is going to be a different year. We have been kind to our brothers for a long time because we did not want to bring chaos in the town but council laws must be followed,” said Mondhar.

He advised the hawkers to relocate to the designated areas in Buxton as the council prepares to build modern stalls by the end of this year.

ENDS.
