Peddler? No, not me.Fisherman? yes, at certain times...

DRUGS

FEBRUARY 9, 2010

BY EUGENE OMILO

A man who was arrested by police with several rolls of bhang has confessed to be a user but denied being involved in peddling the drug.

Suleiman Wanyama was arrested in the wee hours of yesterday’s morning at the Likoni channel after embarking from a ferry.

When police confronted him, he quickly sat on a small luggage he was carrying which allegedly contained the drugs.

Police recovered 20 rolls of bhang from him as he defended himself from being a drug peddler claiming he was an electrician and a ‘part time’ fisherman.

While confirming the incidence, Mombasa police boss Tom Odera said Wanyama will be arraigned in court today to answer charges on being in possession of bhang.

Drug abuse has remained rampant among young people in the region as local leaders continue to engage each other in a war of words over whom to blame for the menace.
